Renowned for her storytelling, vocal prowess, and genre-defying production, Tali returns with her most evocative and expansive body of work to date: Empress Era.
This album marks a powerful new chapter for Tali — a reflection on transformation, resilience, and evolution. Across seven tracks, Empress Era moves like a rite of passage: confronting uncertainty, surrendering to change, and reclaiming power in a world that feels both chaotic and full of potential.
On this record, Tali’s production weaves cinematic layers with her familiar DnB breaks and touches of neo-soul. Moments featuring live flute, saxophone, guitar, bass, strings, and drums bring warmth and raw energy, blurring the lines between electronic and organic.
Vocal collaborations include Aotearoa singer-songwriter Jordyn With A Y, whose voice blends beautifully with Tali’s on the summery and uplifting “Young Daylight” (featuring live flute from Geo Seato). UK DnB legend Stamina MC also lends his unmistakable edge to “Amongst Kings And Queens.”
Tali’s storytelling ability and rich, powerful voice are beautifully illustrated on “I Feel Too Much,” complemented by live saxophone from the illustrious Nathan Haines.
On the UK-G influenced “Spell,” Tali reminds the listener of her lyrical prowess and quick-fire delivery — with poignant lyrics and a hypnotic bassline. The title track, “Empress Era,” draws on neo-soul and breakbeat influences as she explores the emotional and physical aspects of entering a new era of womanhood.
Tali shares production duties with Orlando Cooper on “Life On The Line,” lamenting our loss of human connection through social media and the over-curation of our lives. This live version is warm and sonically rich, with Cam Sangster on drums. The same song is later given the full drum & bass treatment by Toronto-based producer Polaris, delivering an uplifting, soaring version that perfectly rounds off the album.
At its core, Empress Era is Tali at her most assured — a seasoned artist stepping fully into her power, exploring themes of identity, empowerment, evolution, and the search for grace amid chaos.
