RECORD RECYCLING PROGRAM
Vinyl records are technically unrecyclable because of their paper centre labels contaminating the otherwise reusable PVC. As a consequence dud records usually end up in the landfill — but Holiday Records is here to change that.
We believe that as New Zealand's only manufacturer of vinyl records, we owe a duty of care to our natural environment and the potential harm caused by products that we create. This means doing our bit to ensure those records that aren't being used don't end up in the ground and can instead be reused elsewhere.
Introducing Holiday Records Record Recycling Program — bring in your unloved 12" vinyl records and we will recycle them into PVC piping with our friends at Marley New Zealand — helping close the loop in the manufacturing process and lifecycle of our products.
Please contact us to arrange a time to make a delivery.
Please note - fees may apply for large deliveries.
01. BRING IN YOUR OLD RECORDS
If you have any dud 12" vinyl records at home that are destined for the landfill feel free to bring them into Holiday Records so we can facilitate their safe recycling.
Please contact us first to arrange a time to make a delivery.
02. REMOVAL OF CENTRE LABELS
Used PVC is reusable — just not with paper embossed into its surface like that of all vinyl records.
We have designed and built a custom machine whose only purpose is to forcefully punch out the centre labels.
This means the PVC can be recycled by our friends down the road at Marley New Zealand.
03. GRINDING OF RECORDS
We then grind up the records with centre labels removed in order to create a consistent PVC granulate that Marley New Zealand can then recycle.
04. MAKING OF PVC PIPING
We then deliver your ground up PVC to our friends at Marley New Zealand who melt this down to use in their manufacturing process for some of their PVC piping products.
