Five years ago, Cashh released Return of the Immigrant, the album he’d carried for seven years.

In March 2014, at the peak of his commercial success, Cashh was removed from the UK and sent back to Jamaica, the country of his birth. He landed with no housing, no contacts and no idea how long he’d be there. It lasted five years. Return of the Immigrant was the result: a raw, emotionally charged account of deportation, survival and starting again from scratch.

“I poured 7 years worth of blood, sweat and tears into this project,” says Cashh. “This is a reality many have faced in different ways under so many unjust circumstances, so to express my experiences and emotions through my art means everything to me.”

From “Return of the Man”, written in Jamaica before he knew if he’d ever get back, to "Trench Baby", “Pounds & Dollars” feat. M1llionz and the Steel Banglez-produced “Double Tap / Mexican Wave”, the album marked the return of one of UK rap’s most significant names. Its story still resonates today.

Now, five years on, Return of the Immigrant is being pressed to vinyl to mark the anniversary. It’s a record to hold onto.

Artist Profile

Cashh

Cashh, formerly known as Cashtastic, is a Jamaican-born, South London-raised rapper known for his sharp pen game and his ability to blend genres with ease.
In 2014, at the height of his career, he was deported to Jamaica, despite having lived in the UK since the age of six. He arrived with no housing and no contacts. Instead of stopping, he went deeper into his craft and built a global sound - a mix of rap, dancehall and r&b, full of real stories and raw emotion.
He touched back down in the UK in 2019 and came back stronger. In 2021 he released Return of the Immigrant, a powerful album that laid bare his experiences of deportation, identity and resilience. He has since featured on Little Simz’ “Blood” and Wretch 32’s “Windrush”.
Off the mic, Cashh is using his voice to change the conversation around immigration. He is building the Proud Immigrant foundation to support others who have faced similar struggles.
Five years on, Return of the Immigrant returns on vinyl. It’s proof that no setback can hold you down if you move with purpose.
