JessB is proud to present the 5th anniversary reissue of her breakout mixtape, 3 Nights In Amsterdam (2020). On vinyl for the first time, this expanded edition includes three unreleased tracks and a new remix of ‘Bullseye’ produced by HalfQueen & Pasquinel.

After being announced as a top-five finalist for the APRA 2025 Silver Scroll Award and a featured performer at the inaugural edition of the Afrosoul festival in Auckland, JessB is ready to reflect on a pivotal moment in her career.

When she arrived in the capital city of the Netherlands in 2019, the Kenyan-New Zealand songwriter and rapper was already a firebrand force for hip-hop creativity. In her heart, however, she had a vision of creating music that was more borderless: a hypnotic, hip-hugging melange of US and UK rap, and the equally rich Caribbean and African traditions of dancehall and afrobeats.

Over the course of an extended weekend of nocturnal studio sessions in the Venice of the north, she realised the first iteration of her vision while working with the multi-platinum Dutch producer MOW Music. “From the first beat he played me, I was like ‘Whoa!’” she remembers. “The music scene in Amsterdam, in general, is all these genres existing together in this diasporic pool of sound. So the same guy making all these beats that were different but worked together made sense.”

On the 28th of August 2020, JessB unveiled six songs from those watershed sessions as her 3 Nights In Amsterdam mixtape release. Opening with a dem bow rave riddim on ‘Bullseye’, followed by the bashment shuffle of ‘We That Filth’ and nocturnal reggaeton-rap number ‘09 To The World Freestyle’, the music captures her finding herself, while finding her way to the world. From there, ‘Shut Up’ gives her syncopated sound an eastern melodic tint, before ‘Pon It’ and ‘Drop Nuts’ feat Rubi Du, close things out in a dancehall style.

Five years on, 3 Nights In Amsterdam is finally arriving on vinyl. In commemoration, it’s accompanied by three heavy unreleased tracks produced by MOW Music: ‘Okay Then’, ‘Boohoo’, and ‘Don’t Stop’ featuring Jamaican dancehall artist Roze Don, as well as a captivating Baltimore Club-style remix of ‘Bullseye’ produced by HalfQueen & Pasquinel.

“At that time, we had just started [the] FILTH [club night] and I was coming into myself in a more confident way,” JessB says. “I had a lot I wanted to express and talk about. I still really enjoy performing those songs. They’ve stood the test of time in my world. It feels like this is a good opportunity for me to round off a chapter in a cool way.”
