These Geckos are just two of Aotearoa’s native lizard population whose conservation status is in decline due to habitat loss, predators and climate change; mokomoko who are now facing significant threats from proposed and expanding mining with with the Department of Conservation (DOC) warning that between 400,000 and 650,000 lizards could be killed in Bendigo Mine alone.
