Young Moon are set to release the E.P PARVERBAL ORCHIDS on a 12” vinyl for the first time. Originally released as a stand-alone in 2022, then re-released as part of the Double E.P Paraverbal Orchids / Young Moon Is a Broken Bone on HOME ALONE in 2025, the E.P will now be pressed with Holiday Records (N.Z) for release in December 2025.
Young Moon began as the solo project of American songwriter Trevor Montgomery, now based in Nelson, Aotearoa/New Zealand. Over the past decade, Young Moon has released music through respected indie labels Western Vinyl (J Tillman, Dirty Projectors) and Orindal Records (Advance Base, Julia Byrne, Cass McCombs), including the albums Navigated Like the Swan, Colt and the beautiful 2023 release Triggered by Sunsets. Their style—described as “Cloud Gaze”—blends ambient textures, slow-burning melodies, and introspective lyrics.
The Paraverbal Orchids E.P takes its name from American fantasy novelist-Ursula K. Le Guin’s concept of Paraverbal communication. Montgomery says:
“I was surprised to discover this concept, I felt like I had been existing in that space my whole life…trying to communicate on this other conscious level” Paired with the word Orchid, a gorgeous flower that exists in the most impossible places, Paraverbal Orchids describes what my life was like when I moved to the Islands of Aotearoa. Trying to figure out what the hell I was doing, with all this music [that would become the EP] and then there it was, the Orchid appeared and showed me the way.”
The E.P features the splendid single The Orbiting Object: A love for sci-fi and a nod to the 30 grams of Nanjing orchid seeds that were carried into space for breeding tests. The heart of this song is a simple, romantic love story… “Talking on the phone, tenderness language being passed back and forth, from which a relationship grows”
The Paraverbal Orchids will be pressed by Holiday Records on 140 gram vinyl and feature three bonus tracks from Young Moon is a Broken Bone.
